How to layer objects in the Comic Builder

Learn how to add depth to comics by using the Layer up/Layer down buttons.

Drag in a character or prop from the Art Library

Whenever you drag an object into a panel, you'll noticed that it always appears in front of all of the other art pieces in the panel. In this case, the character appears in front of the hot tub, which was already in the scene.

Use the Layer down button to move the selected item behind the other art pieces

Start by making sure you've properly selected the item you want to move - you'll notice a blue box appear around the item to indicate that it's been selected, as in the image above.

Next, click on the Layer down button, which will move the selected item either into or behind the object that was previously in front of it. Some items, like the hot tub, have multiple layers, so instead of simply moving behind it, the selected item will appear inside it!

Each time you click Layer down (or Layer up) it will move the selected item one layer behind (or in front of) the other art items in the panel. In this case, the character has moved behind the hot tub after repeatedly clicking the Layer down button. It can easily be moved back inside or in front of the hot tub by clicking on the Layer up button.

You can perform these actions with any objects in your panel to get the composition just right!
